thesmartclub - be part of the world's largest independent club for all things smart

Following on from the success of previous Events in Austria, the smart times 09 Event again looks to be set for another outstanding success and is again aiming to be the location of the world's largest gathering of smart cars.

A weekend of activities, music, partying and, of course, the famous 'corso' run will make this a superb Event to attend and this year the party moves from a marquee to an ancient castle!

thesmartclub has been liaising closely with smart Stuttgart and the Event organisers and this year.  Although no formal 'organised' trip from the UK to Austria is being planned, there will be a core team representing thesmartclub attending.

For those driving to the Event, the route will take us from Dover to Saarbrucken and on to Zell am See.  the timetable is as follows:

  • Wed 19 Aug - Dover to Saarbrucken

  • Thu 20 Aug - Saarbrucken to Zell am See

  • Fri 21 Aug - smart times 09

  • Sat 21 Aug - smart times 09

  • Sun 22 Aug - smart times 09

  • Mon 23 Aug - Zell am See to Saarbrucken

  • Tue 24 Aug - Saarbrucken to Dover

Note that for anyone wishing to drive to/from the Event using the above schedule, thesmartclub will provide logistical assistance with en route accommodation, ferry crossing and accommodation in Zell.  Note however this will not be a 'supported' trip and no road books will be provided.  We expect to have a rough guide to total pricing available by 2nd July 2009.

We will also have a number of people flying into Germany and Austria and hiring cars.  Destination airports are either Munich or Salzburg.  It is possible to hire a smart car in Munich although getting hold of a smart at Munich airport is virtually impossible and whilst a reservation can be made, one will normally require to get a train from Munich Airport to Munich and collect the car at the car rental location.  We have used 'Sixt' from Munich in the past and the car can normally be returned to the airport on the return journey.    Alternatively, one can fly into Salzburg Airport and hire a car from Laudamotion.  thesmartclub can provide further guidance and instructions as required.
