Scottish Tour

5th to 12th July

Overview

As indicated in our 2008 Events Calendar, we are delighted to announce our ‘Scottish Tour’ taking place 5th July 2008 to 12th July 2008.

Following a similar concept to that of our Hambach (smartville) and Austrian Events, this Scottish Tour is a total ‘package’ Event – think of it as a wee Scottish holiday offering some outstanding driving roads and some spectacular scenery.  Indeed, we have again aimed to avoid participants worrying about logistics and equally, we want to offer you as much flexibility to visit the local sights each day with substantial free time available within the overall daily timetable. You really will have the chance to take your own time and schedule your own sights but we hope that the route and accommodation will provide you with the best of the best.

The package comprises SEVEN nights accommodation in a number of great Scottish Hotels (B&B) along a spectacular route - we also include a ferry crossing.  We are also providing Road Books, significant information on the areas through which you will drive and stay in addition to some other items to help you enjoy this Event!

Route and Locations
Saturday 5th July, we’ll leave smart of Edinburgh in the afternoon and head up to the awesome scenery of Glencoe where we have our first overnight stop at the Clachaig Inn.  Sunday 6th July is free to explore Glencoe and tour up to Fort William or some of the famous West Coast railway.  It’s a relaxed day offering you maximum flexibility returning to the Clachaig Inn on Sunday night

Monday 7th July we head from Glencoe to Glenfinnan (with the famous railway viaduct as used in the Harry Potter film) and from there via super roads for lunch in the old fishing village of Mallaig.  After lunch we take the ferry to the magical Isle of Skye and drive north up the Isle to the next overnight halt in Royal Hotel in Portree.

Tuesday 8th July you are free to tour the Isle of Skye.  Don’t underestimate the distance around the island (!) and there is some spectacular scenery, the mountains and even the chance to see the coastal basking sharks.  Tuesday night we are back at the Royal Hotel

Wednesday 9th July we cross the (now toll free!) bridge from the Isle of Skye back to the Scottish mainland to a short stop at Eilean Donan Castle (used in Scottish calendars all over the world) and from there, up the side of Loch Ness to the Loch Ness Lodge hotel in Drumnadrochit.  If time permits, you may wish to take an optional one hour boat trip on the Loch or simply relax in the surrounding area.  We have a full day in the Loch Ness area on Thursday

Thursday 10th July is free to tour the area, drive up to Inverness, visit the Loch Ness area and take in the boat trip on the Loch.  You can visit the numerous distilleries or make a point of visiting the various sights and viewpoints we’ll provide in the Road Book.

Friday 11th July we leave Loch Ness and drive to Drumnadrochit and from there to Braemar.  This section of road takes in the infamous Tomintoul – Cock Bridge road. From the Royal settings of Braemar we head south to Blairgowrie and our final overnight halt in the Royal Hotel.

Saturday 12th July we leave Blairgowrie to drive south back to Edinburgh, concluding the package event.  Whilst participants can continue to head further south on the Saturday, we would be happy to arrange additional overnight hotel accommodation in Edinburgh for anyone should this be required.
