| Overview of the Survey | |||||
|
thesmartclub has been aware of significant correspondence and traffic on MessageBoards regarding actual fuel consumption being achieved by the new fortwo model (model type reference 451). We are keen to gather actual data from owners around the world and we'll publish monthly summaries based on engine type (no personal information or unique vehicle data will be published. The data is gathered via our encrypted secure server. We ask you for your email address and vehicle registration number/licence plate number - this data will enable us to email you with a historical set of data and charts base don your own vehicle history. Only you see your own vehicle data. It's a service brought to you free of charge by thesmartclub and we hope that the monthly summaries results we publish will be beneficial to smart owners and enthusiasts everywhere. Our Privacy Statement below applies throughout. RESULTS ANALYSIS We are gathering data from owners of three smart fortwo models namely:
EXCLUSIONS AND ASSUMPTIONS We have not split data between coupe and cabrio models and for the sake of simplicity, have not sought out any models where engine remapping may have been conducted. Numerous factors affect fuel consumption including weather, tyre pressures, weight of occupancy etc. However, as this survey is running through 2008 across Europe and North America, such variations will balance out. Where an insufficient number of submissions have been gathered to support meaningful averages, these have been excluded from this first (Aril 2008) set of data. The data displayed is based upon data submitted by owners. Since such data cannot be verified, thesmartclub ltd cannot take responsibility for the accuracy of the data shown. COMBINED APRIL to OCTOBER 2008 inclusive Results The following data was gathered from owners across North America, UK and Continental Europe. All figures displayed are miles per (UK) Gallon Survey participants:
By way of comparison, an independent survey of smart fortwo owners in the USA gathered data in April 2008 from 18 owners. There was no differentiation made by engine cc. That USA only data showed overall Miles per (UK) gallon of 45.43 across all models of the 18 fortwos surveyed. City driving showed 39.66 MPG, highway/motorway at 49.27 MPG and combined urban of 43.26 MPG. Note that all figures displayed here are based on UK Gallons.
COMBINED APRIL to OCTOBER 2008 inclusive RON RATINGS We also trap the RON fuel rating used. Whilst this will be further divided in future Reports to differentiate or spot any benefits of specific RON rating to engine type in terms of fuel efficiency, we do not yet have enough data to provide that split at present.

The more data we have the more accurate our analysis and the better comparison you can make between your own experiences and that of the owners at large. |
