4site - Purpose

The principal purpose of ‘4site’ is, as the strap line suggests, to provide an additional communication channel (“our columns”) to support thesmartclub’s web site.

The magazine will contain content pulled from other smart related areas, some key Daimler/smart Press Releases, in addition to news, views and reviews of events and products in addition to contributions from smart centres themselves.  It also provides a different, additional platform for you to send in your articles, images and reviews for the benefit of smart owners and enthusiasts in multiple countries.  Some of the content will already be known to many ‘online’ enthusiasts and much of the content will be new to others, particularly enthusiasts with limited or no access to the web.

This is the first time we have used this specific format of magazine and it is being aimed at multiple audiences.

As with all magazines, it’s easy to read (and sometimes even easier to criticise J) a magazine’s content but it takes effort to contribute to that magazine … it’s those contributions that ensure the success and popularity of any journal irrespective of whether it’s online and/or in hard printed copy.  We have made available a range of submission processes, detailed in the magazine, to ensure you can submit articles and images for future issues.

Downloads formats

The online copies of this latest version of ‘4site’ are available as three different PDF file sizes based upon whether you wish to browse online, browse using Adobe’s Digital Reader (a link to which is also provided) or whether you wish to print one or more PDF pages at home. We have also provided an HTML version - note that the HTML version displays a smaller front and rear cover image to aid download times.

Future copies of ‘4site’ will also be available in Microsoft eBook versions (.lit), eXML and a number of mobile media platforms enabling you to browse text based articles ‘on the move’ (but not whilst driving …).

Copies of this latest '4site' Magazine are available for download now, along with additional browsing application downloads via the ‘Forums & Info’ menu link at the top of our main web pages.

Hard copies

This new version of '4site' has also been produced in full colour A4 magazine format for customers and visitors to browse whilst visiting smart Centres and many third party smart related companies.  A limited number of initial supplies of the magazine have been sent to every smart centre in the UK and initially to centres in France, Germany, Belgium, Austria and North America.

We expect the bulk of viewing and browsing to be carried out online but we are equally aware that some owners and enthusiasts still prefer a tangible, hard copy, magazine to read in addition to browsing online.  This is especially so if the magazine perhaps includes an article submitted by yourself!

To provide such hard copies of the magazine, we now have ‘4site’ available via our Online Shop.  We will provide this full colour A4 magazine to you at ‘no cover cost’ other than postage & packing plus a nominal £0.90 (90 pence / 0,90GBP) handling fee (whilst stocks last).  The magazine will then be posted directly to an address of your choice.  Of course, you can browse the content online, print pages or print the whole document at home and then decide if you wish to order a full ‘hard copy’ of the magazine should you wish.

Our 'Offline Members' will be posted a copy automatically.

Feedback based on the hard copies issued and piloted to date has been superb (particularly from North America and Germany) and we are already receiving content submissions for the next issue of ‘4site’ due out July 2008.  The magazine’s content will be primarily in English although contributions in languages other than English will also have summarised translations included.

Closing dates for the July issue is 18th June 2008.

Your articles and submissions now have the chance to reach a truly international audience in hard and soft copy formats and I am confident that ‘4site’ will continue to develop and improve further throughout 2008.
